| The
services
provided to students enrolled at the KidsPeace Academy at
Orchard Hills are highly individualized and determined by treatment
team members. Treatment teams are comprised of clinicians, educators,
family members and the student. They meet frequently to modify the plans
based on the progress the student has made and the work that still needs
to be accomplished. In addition to attending a full day of academic
classes, KidsPeace Academy students also participate in one-on-one
counseling with assigned therapists, group counseling sessions with
professionals who are trained in leading group discussions that give
each member strong insight into his or her own issues, as well as
coping strategies that may benefit other group members. The
transformation that takes place within these groups is amazing and
awe-inspiring and provides the students with life-long skills
to help them face and deal with all kinds of problems. Students carry a
full schedule of classes, as they would at any school, but they also
participate in various types of counseling that help them take
responsibility for their own actions and try to help their peers learn
to solve their problems as well. In addition to academic and counseling
responsibilities, students are offered a number of opportunities to
join extra-curricula activities and provide community service to
deserving groups. They can volunteer on a regular basis to assist
organizations in meeting fundraising or service goals or participate in
special fundraisers to raise money for a special cause. They also
participate in visits to the elderly and assisting with the care of
therapy animals. In terms of extra-curricula activities, students can
choose from a variety of activities ranging from all kinds of indoor
and outdoor sports to musical groups including step teams, a chorus and
a bell choir, to participating in a variety of worship services to
enrollling in creative programs such as arts and crafts and drama. | |
